The body of a man who had been missing for three days was found buried in a shallow grave in Takaba, Mandera County.
Police said the body was recovered from Kotokoto forest and later identified as that of Hassan Mohamed Salat aged 55.
The body had visible injuries when it was exhumed on May 26 by locals.
Police said he had been missing for three days and no report was made to them.
The body was moved to a local mortuary pending autopsy and probe.
Police say they are yet to know the motive of the incident.
The area is near the Kenya-Somalia border which is usually breached by terrorist group al-Shabaab.
Meanwhile, four people were lynched in separate incidents in the country.
The victims were accused of being thieves.
Police discourage mob lynching and call it criminal.
The first incident happened in Isebania town in Migori County on May 26 where two bodies were recovered in separate places.
Police said both men were subjected to mob injustice on suspicion of stealing a motorcycle.
The bodies were removed to Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary pending autopsy and identification.
In Bungoma’s Kananachi village, a man was subjected to mob injustice for stealing a chicken.
Along Muranga Road, Nairobi, a man was killed by a mob after he snatched a mobile phone from a pedestrian on May 27.
The man was stoned to death.
Police arrived at the scene and moved the body to the mortuary.
Cases of mob lynching have been on the rise in the past few days.
