Police in Kisumu and Migori Counties have arrested 14 suspects in connection with violence witnessed during anti-government protests in parts of the country.
The detectives have come under criticism for bias in their work.
This after it emerged there are no arrests over the raid on the Kenyatta-owned Northland City farm in Ruiru.
No arrests have also been made over the raid on the Odinga-owned factory in Nairobi.
Kenyans on social media criticized the police for their conduct.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in a statement on Saturday said that two of the suspects were allegedly
part of the goons who raided a supermarket in Kisumu and stole goods valued at Sh5 million.
The two were nabbed on Friday as detectives also recovered some of the foodstuffs stolen.
“The suspects include two prime suspects who were part of the gang that broke into Jamii Supermarket and made away with goods worth over Sh5 Million,” said the DCI.
Police said the two were arrested and foodstuffs including packets of unga, sugar, rice, and tea leaves suspected to have been stolen from the store recovered.
The duo has already been arraigned at Kisumu Law Courts and the detectives were granted orders to detain them for 10 more days as they continue with investigations.
The other 12 suspects were apprehended in the Suna East constituency for reportedly erecting barriers on major highways and extorting money from the public.
According to the DCI, the men had put up barriers along the Migori- Isebania Highway and Namba-Kakrao Bypass where they collected coins of Sh20 and 10 and Sh50, 100, 200, and 500 notes, all amounting to Sh2,645.
DCI says the 12 who are in custody at Migori police station shall take a plea on Tuesday 2, 2022.
Police have killed at least two people in Kisumu in the past two protests.
