21-Year-Old Man Is Killed In Fire Incident In Gatanga, Muranga County


Police are investigating an incident where a 21-year-old man was burnt to death in a fire incident in a village in Gatanga, Muranga County.

Police said the incident happened in Kagio village on February 19 morning and killed one Joseph Ndaba Wanjiku.

According to the police, two residential houses belonging to the deceased were burnt before the fire was contained by locals and a fire engine.

After the fire was extinguished, the body of the man was found inside the house burned beyond recognition and properties of unknown value were extremely burnt, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.

Meanwhile, three cases of drowning involving four victims were separately reported on Thursday, police said.

The first incident happened in Kiganjo, Gatundu, Kiambu County where the body of George Gitonga, 19 was found in Thirika River.

It is not clear how the man drowned, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

In Kopsiro, Bungoma County, a nine-year-old boy drowned in river Terem in a tragic incident.

Police said the girl was a grade one pupil at Chepyuk Primary School in the area.

He is believed to have drowned on Wednesday as she tried to walk from her school following heavy rainfall in the area.

The family of the child was concerned he had not gone back home which prompted them to stage a search.

The body was later recovered in the river. Witnesses and police said it had bruises on the head and legs and was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

In Ntulele, Narok County, two children drowned in an incident in a village.

Police said two male juveniles drowned in a village dam on February 19 as they ventured there for swimming sessions.

The victims were aged ten and seven and were all pupils at Inkinye Primary School.

The bodies were removed from the dam and moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Drowning is emerging as one of the leading causes of death in the country.

Police say a case is reported daily in a worrying trend.
