A 22-year-old man was killed by an angry mob after he allegedly attacked and stabbed a woman in Kibra, Nairobi, in the early hours of Sunday.
The incident occurred in the Kibra Kianda area within Kilimani Sub-County on August 16, 2026.
Police said the man, identified as Ernest Mutola, was armed with a knife when he allegedly entered a railway residential area from Jamhuri Police Station.
He reportedly attacked and stabbed a woman on the forehead, leaving her injured.
She was rushed to Mbagathi Hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition.
The attack reportedly attracted the attention of members of the public, who confronted Mutola and attacked him using stones and other crude weapons.
He sustained serious injuries and died at the scene.
Police officers responded to the incident and found Mutola’s lifeless body lying on the ground.
The scene was processed and documented before the body was removed and taken to City Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing and subsequent mob killing.
And a 90-year-old woman was murdered at her homestead in Ganze, Kilifi County, after she was allegedly accused by some family members of practising witchcraft.
The elderly woman, identified as Mwenda Charo, a Giriama woman, was attacked by an unknown assailant on Saturday evening, August 15, 2026.
Police received a report of the incident at Ganze Police Station at about 9.32pm, with preliminary information indicating that the attack occurred at around 7.30pm.
Charo was seated outside her house when an unknown attacker approached her and struck her on the head with a sharp object.
The attack inflicted fatal injuries, leaving the elderly woman dead at the scene.
Police officers visited the homestead after receiving the report.
They found the woman’s body lying in a pool of blood, with a deep cut on the right side of her head.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Charo had previously been accused by some members of her family of being a witch.
In 2025, she was reportedly taken to a traditional healer for what was described as a cleansing ritual.
Police processed and documented the scene before removing the body to the Kilifi County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending an autopsy.
Detectives have launched investigations to establish the motive for the killing and identify the assailant.
Such incidents have been on the rise in the area amid efforts to solve them.
