A 24-year-old man was hacked to death and his body dumped near the Ramisi River in Lunga Lunga, Kwale County, in what police suspect was linked to an ongoing land dispute.
The deceased was identified by relatives as Nyamawi Mwahui Mwerо whose body was discovered near the riverbank adjacent to farmland in Mikuani B Village on Monday morning.
Police visited the scene and established that the deceased had sustained deep cuts to the head and neck, apparently inflicted using a sharp object, suspected to be a panga.
Police said the man appeared to have been killed elsewhere before his body was dumped at the scene.
Preliminary investigations point to an ongoing land dispute as a possible motive for the killing.
The scene was photographed and documented before the body was moved to Msambweni Sub-County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it was awaiting postmortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.
Elsewhere, a 58-year-old man is suspected to have drowned after slipping from a temporary wooden bridge while crossing the Kithino River in Abogeta, Meru County.
The deceased was identified as Robert Mureithi Mbutura, a resident of Igokine Sub-Location.
His body was discovered at about 11:30am on Monday, August 10, 2026, lying partially submerged in the river at Karwe Village, Baranga Sub-Location.
The incident was reported to Ntharene Police Station by the area assistant chief of Igokine Sub-Location, Joshua Murerwa.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Mbutura was heading home from Rukura area on Sunday night when he attempted to cross the Kithino River using a temporary wooden bridge.
Police suspect that he accidentally slipped from the bridge and fell onto the rocky riverbed before drowning.
The scene was processed and documented by police and DCI officers before the body was removed to Kanyakine Sub-County Hospital mortuary for preservation pending a postmortem examination.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
