The CEO of Veterans for Peace Dr Nelson Muakara Sechere was charged with an alleged theft of goods worth Sh16 million.
Sechere who was presented before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego denied the charge leveled against him.
In the first count it was stated that on different dates between July 01, 2024 and September 20, 2024 at Kenya Veterans for Peace situated at Nyayo House, 16th floor in Nairobi he conspired with others not before court to defraud Kipkoech Mutai goods worth Sh16.9 million.
The goods according to the charge sheet were sugar, rice and cooking oil.
“You falsely pretended that you were in a position to pay for the goods upon delivery a fact you knew to be false.You also obtained from him the goods,” added the charge sheet.
Another count facing the accused and which was read to him said that on different dates between December 6,2023 and December 11,2023 in Naiorbi county joined with another already in court and others not before court with intent to defraud obtained from Caroline Mwoni Amusala goods worth Sh4 million.
The goods according to the charge sheet were rice,several jerrycans of 20 liters each and cooking oil.
“You pretended that that it was a genuine agreement between her and Kenya Veterans for peace for the supply and delivery of the said goods the fact you knew to be false,” read the charge sheet.
He denied all charges and asked the court to grant him lenient bond terms adding that he was not a flight risk.
He was released on a bond of Sh2 million with one surety of the similar amount or alternatively pay a cash bail of Sh1 Million.
The case will be mentioned on November 4.
