A tragic accident on the Eldoret-Malaba highway in Kakamega County resulted in the deaths of at least five people on Sunday.
The collision, which happened in the Murgus area, involved a trailer, a tractor, and a saloon car.
According to police, the incident began when the trailer, traveling at high speed from Eldoret, rear-ended the tractor.
The impact caused the trailer to lose control and subsequently crash into an oncoming Toyota Probox.
The Toyota was carrying five family members who were returning home to Busia County after attending a wedding.
Out of the five occupants in the Toyota Probox, two survived but sustained injuries.
They have been taken to Moi Referral Hospital in Eldoret, where they are currently reported to be in stable condition.
The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to Webuye Hospital mortuary for further examination.
Lugari sub-county police commander Julius Melly confirmed that an investigation into the accident is underway to determine the cause and circumstances leading to the collision.
This incident is part of a concerning pattern of road accidents in the region.
The day before, on August 24, a multi-vehicle crash in the Migaa area involved a Simba bus and several other vehicles.
This accident, which occurred early in the morning at Molo Twin Bridge on the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway, resulted in one death and left 44 people injured.
Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution on the roads and adhere to speed limits to prevent such tragic incidents.
