At least seven people were killed while 32 others sustained injuries after a school bus ferrying mourners lost control and landed in a ditch near the Kanyadiang trading center on the Kendu Bay – Homa Bay road.
The bus belonging to Guu Secondary School based in Nyakach, Kisumu County, lost control with 39 passengers on board when the driver was trying to negotiate a corner at Pala Junction.
The bus was ferrying mourners to a funeral in West Karachuonyo and was moving from Kendu Bay towards the Pala area, police and witnesses said.
Police said 32 passengers who sustained injuries were rushed to various health facilities in the area for medication while the bodies were taken to the Kendu Bay Adventist Hospital mortuary.
Accidents are common in the country.
More than 4,000 people were in 2022 killed in accidents.
