Seven teachers arrested for subjecting pupils to the indecent act at Itumbe DOK Primary School in Kisii County will spend the weekend in custody to enable police to complete their investigations.
Ogembo Court, Senior Principal Magistrate Paul Bewott, while ruling an application to detain the teachers for 14 days Friday, said the suspects will be detained for two days to give the investigation officer time to conclude investigations.
“This period, the prosecution will have the charges prosecute the suspects in the court,” Bewott said.
He ordered the suspects to be remanded at Nyangusu police station for two days.
The seven were arrested after a disturbing video showing pupils in school uniforms being compelled by their teachers to commit an indecent act while lying on top of each other as the teachers laughed out loud in the background sparked a public uproar.
Four of the affected children were rescued by children officers at Nyamache Children’s home for safety and protection.
