Police are looking for a gang posing as taxi operators that attacked and robbed two Cameroon women in Nairobi.
One of the victims who works with UNICEF Ngweki Pru Epse told police she had requested a taxi online to drop her and her sister Tassang Celestina who was traveling to Cameroon on May 10 when the incident happened.
They were to be dropped off at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport from the Gigiri area.
While on the way one person emerged from the trunk of the motor vehicle while armed with a spark-producing gadget and together with the taxi driver threatened them if they did not cooperate, the victim said.
Epse wanted to see off her sister at the airport.
The gang robbed two of their mobile phones, eyeglasses, NCBA bank cheque leaf of Sh15,000, NBA ATM card, UN pass, driving license, USD50, Sh1,100, and transferred Sh5,000 from her Mpesa account.
She said the gang later abandoned them at an unknown place before they were rescued by a member of the public who was passing by.
They got another taxi that dropped them at the airport where they made the report.
The matter was taken over by the Diplomatic police unit which is now handling it.
Police say they are looking for the gang behind the said robbery.
There have been complaints that some of the taxi operators turn out to be thugs.
Police have been urging the public to be careful with the application they use in requesting for the taxis.
