A sixteen-year-old boy suspected to be a bandit was arrested after he had been injured in a clash with security officials in Kainuk, Turkana county.

The boy was reportedly among a group of bandits who had raided a village to steal and rob cattle, police said.

A police reservist who was in the area engaged the four suspected gunmen who were trying to drive away tens of animals injuring the teenager.

According to police, the attackers tried to escape the Wednesday evening incident but the injured one could not run owing to his wound.

A contingent of security officials joined the hunt but no more arrests were made, police said.

Police said the boy had been injured on the right leg and was taken to Lokichar sub-county Hospital for specialized treatment.

The area is facing challenges of insecurity despite ongoing operations to get illegal firearms.

Tens of firearms have been recovered in the operation.
