In Kirinyaga County, a young man named Fidel Omondi Otieno, aged 26, tragically lost his life while visiting Gicheru Water Falls.

However, there’s a bit of good news to share – his body has finally been found.

Here’s what happened: Fidel, who works at a hotel in Nairobi’s Lavington area, was on an outing with five other friends from Nairobi and two from Kutus in Kirinyaga.

They had all come to see the beautiful waterfalls at Kiringa River.

While they were admiring the falls and taking pictures, something went terribly wrong.

Fidel slipped and fell into the water while trying to take a selfie.

The water was flowing rapidly, and Fidel got swept away.

This happened on a Wednesday, and for a while, nobody knew what had become of him.

Edward Ndirangu, the Gichugu Sub-County Police Commander, shared some information.

He said, “They were eight people. Six were from Nairobi and two from Kutus in Kirinyaga”

Fidel’s friends and local residents gathered by the river, anxiously waiting for any news. It was a tense and difficult time for everyone involved.

Thankfully, on Thursday evening around 6:30 p.m., the local divers, along with the police officers and residents, managed to find Fidel’s body.

It was located about 50 meters from the spot where he had fallen.

After the recovery, Fidel’s body was taken to Kerugoya mortuary.

This tragic incident serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers that can be associated with taking risks while trying to capture the perfect picture.

Our hearts go out to Fidel’s family and friends during this difficult time.
