Police are investigating the murder of a 68-year-old woman in a village in Malindi, Kilifi County.
This is the latest such incident whereby the elderly are being targeted and killed in the area.
Police said the body of Dama Baya Mwaruwa was found in her bathroom long after she had been killed by unknown assailants.
Her sons reported she was attacked and killed as she took a bath and the motive is yet to be known.
The two sons said they rushed her to Gede dispensary and they were immediately referred to Malindi sub-county hospital, where she succumbed.
The body was moved to the same hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
Police said three sons of the deceased and one grandson who were present when the incident occurred were arrested for interrogation.
Such incidents have been on the rise in the area amid calls to address the trend. Police say they are pursuing all the cases reported to them.
Meanwhile, a suspected thug was Tuesday night shot dead in a botched robbery in the Huruma area, Nairobi, and a knife was found on him.
Police identified him as Victor Wambua Kanini, 19 who was apparently known in the area as a criminal and a jailbird.
Police said the suspect had tried to stab a team on patrol and who wanted to stop and interrogate him.
A Somali sword was recovered from the suspect, police said.
