A woman got arrested on Wednesday for causing a disturbance during the trial of Donald Trump on fraud charges.
She went up to the former US president in the courtroom, expressing her desire to “help him,” according to a spokesperson for the court.
The woman, who worked in the court, was safely taken out of the Manhattan courtroom by officers.
She has been charged with contempt and put on leave while they investigate the incident, as per Lucian Chalfen, the spokesperson.
This woman, whose identity remains unknown, disrupted the trial by standing up, walking towards the front, and shouting to Mr. Trump that she wanted to assist him, Chalfen explained.
Court officers quickly stopped her before she could reach Mr. Trump or any of the lawyers or others involved in the trial.
No one was in danger during this incident.
Surprisingly, Trump didn’t seem too bothered by what had happened and only found out about it later when speaking to reporters.
He even suggested who should be arrested, saying, “You know who should be arrested? The attorney general should be arrested. For what she’s doing.”
New York’s attorney general, Letitia James, has accused Trump, along with his sons Eric and Don Jr., and other Trump Organization executives of greatly inflating the value of their real estate assets to secure better bank loans and insurance terms.
In this trial, Trump is not facing the possibility of going to jail, but Letitia James is seeking $250 million in penalties and wants the former president and his sons to be removed from managing their family business.
Trump attended the first three days of the trial and came back again this week.
During breaks in the trial, he complained that he was being unfairly treated by Democratic prosecutors trying to hinder his 2024 White House bid.
However, he suggested that he might not be present in court on Thursday because of his busy schedule, as he has the LIV international golf tournament taking place at one of his properties near Miami, which he considers a big event.
