Ruto Organizes Team To Support Raila’s AU Chair Bid

President William Ruto has formed a group to help push for Raila Odinga’s candidacy for the African Union (AU) chairperson position.

“The committee, funded by the government, includes members from both the government and plans to add more from the opposition to make it stronger.”

Ruto has been advocating for Raila in different African nations, paving the way for Raila to declare his interest in the AU’s top role.

Speaking in Addis Ababa, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi emphasized that it’s time for Eastern Africa to lead the AU, as per rotational rules.

Azimio la Umoja leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka, pledged their full support for Raila’s bid.

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo endorsed Raila for the AU position, praising him as the right successor to Moussa Faki.

Raila accepted the endorsement, expressing readiness to serve Africa while highlighting his past role as the AU’s High Representative for Infrastructure Development.

“If elected, Raila will serve at the African Union from 2025 to 2028, a year after Kenya’s next general elections.”
