A group of activists in Nairobi have petitioned police to arrest a Personal Assistant to a Principal Secretaries over allegations of assaulting his house help.
The accused person flaunted the name of the PS saying nothing will happen to him.
They added that the PA was in company of another person when they assaulted the domestic worker.
The activists who addressed the press at the Jeevanjee gardens, Nairobi said that the alleged incident on the house help Mirriam Atieno Akello happened on Saturday May 18 last week within Kilimani area and booked at the Kilimani police station.
“On Saturday,May 18 2024 she was assaulted by her employer’s relatives who caused trauma and body harm to her.
He also confiscated her mobile phone,” said an activist Marion Njoroge.
She went on to say that the assault and confiscation of Akello`s mobile phone was contrary to her right to freedom from torture and freedom from unreasonable seizure of her property.
The activists said that Akello undertook all measures necessary to report the case at the police station in order to have the perpetrators brought to justice,they were perturbed by the slow nature the matter was taking.
They also called for a speedy intervention from the relevant agencies in the country including the office of the director of public prosecutions (ODPP).
Kilimani police boss Moss Ndhiwa when contacted on phone said that he had been away and had instructed the investigating officer to speed up with investigations regarding the matter before an arrest is made.
“I will authorize the investigating officer (IO) to speed up with the investigations,” added Ndhiwa.
