Belgut MP Nelson Koech Reveals Probe Into June 25 Parliament Breach

Belgut Member of Parliament (MP) Nelson Koech has announced that a preliminary investigation is underway to identify those responsible for breaching Parliament on June 25 during nationwide protests.

The probe, still in its early stages, involves a collaborative effort between parliamentary security and the National Police Service to collect evidence necessary for holding perpetrators accountable.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s Daybreak show, Koech confirmed that while Parliament itself has not yet initiated a formal investigation, efforts are being made to gather evidence through CCTV footage and witness testimonies.

“There has not been any official parliamentary probe, but there is a process of evidence gathering being initiated,” he stated.

The revelation comes amid growing concerns about whether internal reviews have been conducted to identify security lapses within the legislative building.

Koech expressed confidence in President William Ruto’s commitment to address the issue comprehensively.

He emphasized that even law enforcement officers would face scrutiny if found at fault.

“This includes the possibility of removing officers if they are found guilty.

It’s a broad-based approach to handling the situation,” Koech added.

The breach resulted in unarmed, peaceful protesters being shot outside Parliament, sparking questions about the lack of action over a month later.

Koech underscored the need for responsible agencies to clarify the situation to the public and address the demands of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), which has reportedly faced challenges in obtaining information from the police.

President Ruto has pledged that his administration will conduct thorough investigations into the attacks on Parliament, the Judiciary, and Nairobi County Government offices.

He suspects that the breach targeted critical areas such as the armoury and the mausoleum.

As the investigation progresses, there is anticipation that more details will emerge, shedding light on the full extent of the breach and the response from both security forces and government officials.
