Tragedy As Form Two Student Dies By Suicide In Rongai, Nakuru


Police are investigating an incident in which a Form two student at Molo Academy in Nakuru County died by suicide.

The student died at his aunt’s house in Rongai area in Nakuru on August 13, police said.

Witnesses and police said the victim died by hanging himself with a manila rope, which was tied around his neck in one of the roof rafters of the house

Police officers visited the scene and confirmed the incident. No suicide note was recovered and the motive is yet to be known.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

In Maragua, Muranga County, one Brian Kamande aged 20 died by suicide by hanging himself using a piece of white cloth that was tied around his neck on one of the roof rafters of his bedroom.

No suicide note was found when police visited the scene and confirmed the incident.

The scene was processed and the body, which had no visible injuries was moved to Murang’a Level Five Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.

In Awendo, Migori County, police said one Sila Ogaja Onyango, 45 and a resident of the Sare Area died by suicide by hanging himself with a manila rope that was tied around his neck on one of the roof rafters of his rental house.

Police officers rushed to the scene and confirmed the incident.

No suicide note was recovered and the scene was processed and the body which had no visible injuries was moved to Rapcom mortuary for autopsy.

Cases of suicide have been on the rise amid calls to address the trend.

Police say the trend has been worrying and increasing as up to two cases are reported daily.

The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties, and financial difficulties.

Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.
