City Hall To Expand Central Kitchens To 17 Sub-Counties

Nairobi will establish a central kitchen in each of its seventeen sub-counties when schools reopen for the third term, Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced.

This move is part of the Dishi Na County school feeding program, which will see the introduction of seven new kitchens before the school term starts on August 26.

The program is designed to provide meals for over 310,000 students, significantly enhancing the county’s efforts to ensure that no child in Nairobi goes to school hungry.

This expansion is in line with Governor Sakaja’s commitment to improving student welfare and addressing food insecurity among the city’s youth.

At a church service held at AIC Pipeline in Nairobi on Sunday, Governor Sakaja emphasized the significance of collaborative governance.

He highlighted how an apolitical approach to development has contributed to the success in Nairobi, noting that a unified government, which includes opposition leaders holding the majority of the MCAs, has been crucial.

Sakaja also commended President William Ruto for his efforts to incorporate leaders from various political backgrounds into the national government.

He reassured Nairobi residents of his dedication to fulfilling his promises, stating, “We are committed to delivering on our pledges, and initiatives like the school feeding program are just the beginning.”

As the county prepares to roll out the new kitchens, there is growing optimism among parents and educators that this initiative will positively impact student performance and overall well-being.

With regular meals provided, the county government is hopeful that this will lead to improved attendance rates and better academic outcomes.

The new kitchens are expected to play a key role in ensuring that students receive the necessary nourishment to support their learning and development.
