The government has announced plans to carry out a nationwide review of development projects spearheaded by the Head of State.
This decision was revealed by Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura during a media briefing on Thursday, prompted by recent reports of neglected projects and rampant corruption.
Mwaura stated that a team from the Office of the President will undertake a thorough assessment of these projects throughout the country.
The inspections aim to evaluate the progress and implementation of the initiatives, ensuring they align with the official plans and documents.
“The government has made significant progress, but there is often confusion about the extent of these achievements,” Mwaura said.
“Our office, in collaboration with the President’s office, will travel to even the most remote areas to conduct these reviews.”
He highlighted that the inspections’ main objective is to verify that the projects are being executed as described in official records and to address any discrepancies between the reported and actual statuses.
“We want to confirm that the projects we discuss in Nairobi are indeed progressing as planned on the ground,” Mwaura added.
“There are claims that the reality diverges from the official narrative, and we need to address these concerns.”
The government’s decision comes in response to a series of investigations by Morara Kebaso, a lawyer-turned-activist, who has documented numerous incomplete or abandoned projects.
Kebaso has been vocal in his criticism of President Ruto’s administration, accusing it of either failing to start projects, letting them stagnate, or misappropriating public funds.
Kebaso has personally visited at least 18 counties to scrutinize the status of government projects, including those from Ruto’s tenure as Deputy President.
Despite facing threats and intimidation, he has vowed to continue his oversight efforts.
His campaign has gained traction and widespread support from the public, who see him as a key advocate for transparency and accountability in government.
