LSK Requests Updates On The Whereabouts Of Aoko

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has urgently demanded the release of prominent activist Maverick Aoko, who has not been heard from for five days.

During a visit to the Kamukunji Police Station, where they were gathering information about fellow activist Boniface Mwangi’s detention, LSK President Faith Odhiambo appealed to the public for assistance in locating Aoko.

“We are deeply concerned about her disappearance and are seeking any information regarding her whereabouts. Our hotline remains active; please contact the LSK if you have any leads.

Every life is valuable,” Odhiambo stated.

She also called for the immediate release of Aoko, emphasizing that Kenya should not be a nation where intimidation and fear prevail.

Odhiambo encouraged citizens to uphold the rule of law, insisting that everyone deserves to exercise their rights freely, regardless of their opinions.

“People may express views that you find disagreeable, but there are legal frameworks to address these issues.

Let’s handle disagreements within the boundaries of the law,” she added.

Aoko has been unreachable for five days, and efforts to contact her offline have been unsuccessful, leading many to speculate that she may have fallen victim to abduction, a growing concern among vocal activists and social media commentators.

The hashtag “Where is Aoko?” has gained traction on Twitter, with numerous users expressing their anxiety and seeking answers.

Odhiambo highlighted the necessity of adhering to legal procedures, pointing out that Aoko had faced charges in court on August 19, 2024.

These charges included disseminating false information under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act No. 5 of 2018, cyber harassment, and the fraudulent use of electronic data.

Public sentiment on social media has been vocal, with many expressing hope for Aoko’s safe return.

“Maverick Aoko is missing, and this is a serious matter.

Let’s pray for her well-being. We live in a country ruled by a heartless regime,” said Cornelis Ronoh. Embakasi East MP Babu Owino also commented,

“Aoko has been missing for several days, and her family and close friends are unaware of her location. I have reached out to them for any updates.”
