The National Police Service (NPS) has launched an intensified anti-corruption strategy under the stewardship of the Office of the Inspector General.
The initiative, announced on Thursday by NYAGA, Director of Corporate Communication and Spokesperson for the NPS, outlines a comprehensive and far-reaching framework designed to root out corruption within the police force and elevate ethical standards across all ranks.
“Our goal is to restore confidence in the police service through firm, transparent actions that deal decisively with misconduct,” said NYAGA in a public address.
“This reform agenda is not just about compliance it’s about transformation.”
Anchored in Article 243 of the Kenyan Constitution, which defines corruption as both a criminal and disciplinary offence, the NPS strategy targets systemic issues and promotes a culture of accountability.
The Internal Affairs Unit (IAU), in partnership with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), will spearhead efforts to enforce ethical conduct and ensure adherence to professional standards throughout the Service.
A dedicated hotline (Tel: 722 203) has been introduced, allowing citizens to report misconduct anonymously. The mechanism ensures the protection of whistleblowers and prompt investigation of reported incidents.
The NPS is rolling out digital platforms to improve transparency and streamline internal monitoring. These systems will make it easier to detect irregularities and enhance accountability in public interactions with police officers.
A collaborative audit with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is underway to assess institutional vulnerabilities and eradicate corruption-enabling loopholes within the police structure.
The NPS is calling on citizens to actively support the reforms by reporting unethical behavior and advocating for a culture of integrity.
“This is a journey of change and we cannot do it alone. We need the eyes, voices, and partnership of every Kenyan to achieve lasting impact,” NYAGA emphasized.
As the implementation begins, the NPS has pledged unwavering transparency and vigilance in its operations, reaffirming its dedication to uphold the law and serve the Kenyan people with honor and integrity.
