A couple was rescued and rushed to hospital in Migori Town after a near fatal domestic fight.
The husband tried to kill the wife by cutting her throat before he also attempted the same.
They both sustained serious neck injuries, police said.
The two had been staying in a rental house in the area before they started to quarrel and fight on Saturday night, police and witnesses said.
It was then that the woman ran out of the house to that of her sister who lives near there with the husband in hot pursuit.
Police said the husband locked the door of the house and stabbed the wife multiple times in the thighs and cut her three fingers.
He then tried to cut her throat. By then, a mob was outside trying to break in to rescue the woman. The man turned the knife on himself and tried to cut his throat in vain in an attempted suicide.
It was then that they were both rescued and rushed to hospital in a serious condition, police said.
The police said they are waiting for the two to recover before they take further action.
Such incidents have been on the rise amid calls on parties to solve their differences amicably.
