Police in Kitui County are investigating murder after the body of an unidentified woman was discovered dumped in a bush on the outskirts of Kitui Town.
The body was found in a bushy area north of Kalundu Market by a herder who had gone to retrieve a stray cow on Monday afternoon, police said.
Preliminary findings indicate that the woman’s body was found naked, with visible injuries on the right side of the head and a fractured right elbow, suggesting she may have been assaulted before being killed.
Police also recovered a mobile phone at the scene, which investigators believe could be crucial in identifying the victim or tracing those responsible.
The body was moved to the Kitui County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits postmortem examination and formal identification.
Authorities have appealed to members of the public with missing persons reports or any relevant information to come forward as investigations into the suspected murder continue.
Meanwhile, police in Kangema Sub-County, Murang’a County, are investigating a suspected drowning incident after the body of an unidentified man was found floating in River Mathioya.
Police said the incident was reported at around 3:28 p.m. on Monday after the body was spotted in the river at Mathioya area in Rwathia location.
Police officers visited the scene and found the body of a man believed to be around 50 years old trapped between rocks in the middle of the river.
Preliminary observations indicated that the body had no visible physical injuries, pointing to a possible drowning.
The body was retrieved and moved to Kangema Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death and assist in identification.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Police said they have been recording a surge in murder incidents in the country amid efforts to solve them.
