The National Police Service has moved to calm tensions following recent criminal attacks in Tseikuru and Ukasi, assuring residents that the incidents are isolated and do not reflect broader community divisions.
In a statement issued by spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, the service acknowledged the fear and anxiety caused by the attacks but emphasized that the perpetrators are a small group of criminals acting independently.
Police thanked local residents for their cooperation and restraint, urging them not to allow the incidents to create mistrust among communities that have historically coexisted peacefully.
The suspects, the agency said, should not be linked to any particular clan or community.
To enhance security, the NPS has deployed specialized units, including the General Service Unit and the Rapid Deployment Unit, to patrol and escort vehicles along the Mwingi–Garissa Road, a key transport corridor in the region.
At the same time, investigative and intelligence teams are pursuing leads to identify and apprehend those responsible. Authorities say they are closing in on the suspects and are committed to ensuring they face justice through due process.
Residents have been urged to remain calm, avoid speculation, and continue with their daily activities.
Community leaders—including elders, religious figures, and local administrators—have also been called upon to support peace efforts and work with security agencies to rebuild trust.
Police are appealing to the public to share any information that could aid investigations through the nearest police station, emergency lines 999 or 911, or anonymously via the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline.
The NPS reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while ensuring all criminal cases are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.
Some locals blocked the main highway for the second day on Wednesday to protest killings that have left at least eight people dead.
The latest killing happened on Tuesday in Nguni area where a 16-year-old boy was killed. This sparked more protests with locals stoning vehicles on the road.
Transport was affected as anti riot police were deployed to address the menace.
