15-Year-Old Boy Arrested Over Fatal Stabbing Of Cousin Over Missing Memory Card In Busia


Police in Busia arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with the fatal stabbing of his cousin following a dispute over a missing memory card.

According to police, the incident was reported on Monday, May 18, after Javan Mike Onyango succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Busia County Referral Hospital.

Investigations established that the deceased had been seriously assaulted on Saturday, May 16, during a violent confrontation with his cousin, a Grade 9 student at Busende Junior Secondary School.

Police said the quarrel erupted over a missing memory card before the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim in the abdomen using a kitchen knife, causing serious injuries.

The victim was rushed to Busia County Referral Hospital for treatment but died on Monday while receiving medical care.

Officers from Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Busia Police Station visited and documented the scene alongside crime scene investigators. The suspected murder weapon was recovered and the juvenile suspect was arrested.

The body was moved to the Busia County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination as investigations continue.

And a fatal road traffic accident along the Kericho–Mau Summit road left two people dead and several others injured.

Police said the crash occurred on 17 May 2026 at around 1400 hours at the Chepseon Kap Makaa area when a bus belonging to Climax Sacco was travelling towards Nairobi from Kericho.

The driver reportedly lost control of the Isuzu FRR vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and land on the right side of the carriageway. The vehicle was extensively damaged.

A total of 20 passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to Kericho County Referral Hospital for treatment.

Among the injured were individuals with fractures, head injuries, chest pain, and soft tissue injuries, while several others were referred to different medical facilities for further care.

Two passengers died on the spot. Their bodies were moved to Londiani Level Four Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination and identification procedures.

Police officers visited and processed the scene, confirming that the vehicle had suffered extensive damage before being towed to Londiani Police Station pending inspection.

The deaths increased to 11, the number of those killed in accidents on Monday morning.

They included five riders, two pedestrians, two passengers, a driver and pedal cyclists.

Police said 43 people who included 20 passengers, ten pedestrians, nine riders and two pillion passengers were injured in the incidents.
