US Citizen Killed In Suspected Robbery Incident In Garissa


Police in Garissa County are investigating a murder incident after a man was found with fatal stab and head injuries near Abubeida School in Bula Mzuri area.

According to the police, the victim was identified as Osman Aweys Abdi, a Somali male adult and a United States citizen.

The incident was reported on Thursday afternoon by a doctor at a private hospital after the victim was brought to the facility already dead.

Police officers visited the hospital and established that at around noon, the deceased’s brother received a call from a woman who had allegedly been given his number by the victim.

The caller reportedly asked whether he knew Osman Aweys Abdi, and upon confirming, directed him to the scene outside Abubeida School in Bula Mzuri.

On arrival, the brother found his brother writhing in pain with a stab wound on the left thigh and injuries on the left side of the head believed to have been inflicted using a blunt object.

Police further established that the victim’s Samsung A06 mobile phone was missing, raising suspicions that the attack may have been linked to robbery.

The injured man was rushed to Antalya Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was moved to the hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination as investigations continue.

No arrest had been made by Friday morning amid probe.

Elsewhere, police in Marani, Kisii County, launched investigations into a murder incident after a man who was allegedly assaulted during a funeral vigil succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment.

According to police, the wife of the man said she attended a funeral vigil in Mwagichana Location together with her husband, Francis Gichana.

The couple reportedly parted ways after arriving at the bereaved family’s compound and sat in different areas during the overnight vigil.

The woman told police that at around 1am while heading home, she found her husband lying unconscious by the roadside near the funeral venue.

With the help of family members, the injured man was rushed to Marani Sub-County Hospital where doctors established that he had sustained injuries to the back of the head, legs and hands.

He was later referred to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for specialised treatment and was admitted in critical condition.

Police said Francis Gichana succumbed to the injuries on Thursday at around noon while undergoing treatment.

The body was moved to the hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal assault.
