Four-Year-Old Dies In Homa Bay House Fire, Two Siblings Injured


A four-year-old girl died while her two younger siblings sustained burn injuries after a fire razed a makeshift house in Suba Central Sub-county, Homa Bay County.

The incident was reported on June 17, 2026, at about 1.02am.

According to police, the children’s mother had left her three children asleep in their mabati (iron-sheet) house at around 10pm and went to a nearby shop, leaving a candle burning inside the house.

When she returned, she found the house engulfed in flames

Members of the public responded and managed to extinguish the fire, but the four-year-old girl had already been burnt to death.

Her siblings, aged three and two 3suffered burn injuries and were rushed to Sindo Sub-County Hospital, where they were admitted in stable condition.

The body of the deceased was moved to the same hospital’s mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police visited and documented the scene and have launched investigations into the cause of the fire.

And police in Nairobi have upgraded an assault case to murder after a construction worker who was injured during a fight at a renovation site succumbed while receiving treatment.

The incident was reported at Parklands Police Station in Gigiri Sub-county on June 16, 2026.

According to police, the assault was initially reported on June 15 by a supervisor at the Alchemist renovation site.

He told officers that two labourers, Andrew Sifuna and Nicholas Wangila, had been involved in a fight during which Sifuna sustained a head injury.

The injured worker was rushed to MP Shah Hospital, where he was admitted as investigations into the assault commenced.

Police arrested the suspect, Nicholas Wangila, and placed him in custody pending the outcome of the investigations.

However, on the night of June 16, Sifuna’s relatives informed police that the victim’s condition had suddenly deteriorated and that he died at about 8.45pm while undergoing treatment.

Police officers visited MP Shah Hospital and confirmed the death.

The body was moved to the hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

The suspect remains in police custody as detectives pursue a murder case and prepare for further legal action.
