Fisherman Found Dead In Rented House At Homa Bay Beach

Police are investigating the sudden death of a 37-year-old fisherman who was found dead inside his rented house at Kodero Beach in Rachuonyo North Sub-county, Homa Bay County.

The deceased was identified as Laurence Obonyo.

The body was found lying inside the deceased’s semi-permanent rented house at Kodero Beach, about 30 kilometres west of Kendu Bay Police Station.

Preliminary investigations established that Obonyo was a fisherman and had failed to go fishing on Tuesday, June 16, raising concern among members of the community.

Police said the body had no visible physical injuries. Crime scene officers processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Gendia Adventist Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Elsewhere, police have launched investigations after the body of an unidentified man was discovered dumped by the roadside in Kyumbi, Athi River South Sub-county, Machakos County.

According to police, members of the public alerted authorities at about 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, after spotting the body about 50 metres off the Kyumbi–Machakos Road at Kwa Mutula Ranch.

Police officers visited the scene and found the body of an African male believed to be between 45 and 50 years old.

The victim’s hands, legs and neck had been tied with pieces of clothing. Police also observed visible injuries on the back of the neck and marks on the back consistent with torture.

Crime scene investigators from Machakos processed the scene before the body was moved to the Machakos Level V Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.

Police said there were no signs of a struggle at the scene, leading investigators to suspect the man was killed elsewhere and his body later dumped at the location.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the victim’s identity, the motive for the killing, and those responsible.
