Security Team Appeals For Calm After Herdsman Killed Near Kenya-Ethiopia Border

Security officials in Marsabit County have appealed for restraint following the killing of a herdsman in Illeret Sub-County, in an incident believed to have involved cross-border bandits from Ethiopia.

A multi-agency team visited Loromade in the Surge Hills, about 100 kilometres north of Illeret Police Station, to investigate the incident.

Investigators established that the deceased, identified as Nakori Namoya, failed to return home after taking livestock out to graze on the evening of June 17.

His body was discovered the following day near the Loromode area in the Surge Hills with a gunshot wound.

Police suspect he was shot by armed bandits believed to have crossed from Ethiopia.

By the time the security team reached the scene, the deceased had already been buried by members of the local community in accordance with traditional customs.

During the visit, security officials held a meeting with residents, urging them to remain calm and refrain from carrying out retaliatory attacks.

Police said efforts are underway to pursue the suspects, who are believed to have fled into Ethiopia, while Kenyan security agencies continue to engage their Ethiopian counterparts in pursuit of a lasting cross-border peace and security solution.

And police in Tharaka Nithi County are investigating the death of a 13-year-old boy whose body was found near a stream a day after he was reported missing.

The deceased was a Grade 9 pupil at Kiriani Primary School in Maara Sub-County.

According to police, the incident was reported at about 3:30 p.m. on Friday after the boy’s body was discovered at Katharene Village.

A team of police officers visited the scene and said the boy’s body was found lying face down near a stream with an injury on the right side of his face. Investigators also noted that he had bitten his tongue.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the boy may have fallen from a grevillea tree while collecting firewood.

His shoes were found at the base of the tree, supporting that line of inquiry.

Police further established the boy had a medical history of epilepsy, which investigators are also considering as they seek to establish the exact circumstances surrounding his death.

The scene was documented and processed before the body was moved to Chuka Level 5 Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
