A security guard was killed and another seriously injured after they were attacked by three armed assailants while on duty at Ismalia Cemetery along the Kisumu–Busia Highway in Kisumu County.
According to police, the incident was reported at about 4:32 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. The attackers allegedly gained entry into the cemetery by jumping over the gate before finding the two guards asleep.
The deceased was identified as 50-year-old Kelvin Samson Odhiambo, who sustained fatal injuries including a deep cut to the lower jaw and a wound to the left eye believed to have been inflicted with a blunt object.
His colleague, 22-year-old man, managed to escape despite suffering four deep cuts to the head and shoulder. He was rushed to Jalaram Hospital, where he is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Police officers, together with crime scene personnel, processed and documented the scene before moving the body to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing to identify the attackers and establish the motive behind the murder.
And police in Murang’a County are investigating the death of a 24-year-old woman who was found unresponsive at her home in Murang’a East Sub-County.
According to a police report, the incident was reported at about 10:15 p.m. on June 30, 2026.
The deceased, identified as Ruth Njeri Nyambura, had reportedly been resting behind the family house before relatives went to check on her and found her lying motionless.
Police said the woman had a history of epilepsy and was also mentally disabled.
Police visited the scene and found the body lying lifeless with no visible external injuries.
Crime scene personnel processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Murang’a Level 5 Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death.
Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
