Man Dies After Falling Into Water-Filled Pit At Abandoned Building In Umoja, Nairobi


Police in Nairobi’s Umoja area are investigating the death of a 33-year-old man who drowned in a water-filled pit at an abandoned building.

According to police, Rufus Kironji was found submerged in a pit containing water adjacent to an abandoned building near his residence in Umoja One on Saturday afternoon.

Members of the public pulled him from the water and rushed him to Penda Hospital in Umoja I, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police officers from Buruburu Police Station visited both the hospital and the scene.

They established that the deceased had no visible physical injuries.

The scene was processed by officers from the Scene of Crime unit before the body was transferred to Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home pending a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the drowning are ongoing.

Meanwhile, police in Mbooni East, Makueni County, are investigating the death of a 56-year-old man whose body was found floating in an earth dam on Saturday.

According to police report, the body of Boniace Mwinzi was discovered at Kwa Barak Mwanthi Earth Dam at around 12:30 p.m.

Police visited and processed the scene.

Preliminary investigations established that the deceased was a casual labourer working at the farm.

After documenting the scene, police moved the body to the Makueni County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the drowning are ongoing.

And police in Likuyani Sub-County, Kakamega County, have launched a murder investigation after a 37-year-old man was found dead by the roadside near a church.

According to police, Mark Simiyu was discovered lying along a road near Binyenya Catholic Church on Saturday morning.

The incident was reported to police by the deceased’s cousin, Abubakar, who said the body was found at around 9:30 a.m.

Police visited and processed the scene before establishing that the deceased had blood oozing from the nose and bruises on his back.

The body was moved to the Likuyani Sub-County Mortuary, where it will undergo a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Police have classified the case as murder and have commenced investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.
