
Outgoing Director General Brig Loonena Naisho said the funds are required for various projects geared towards revamping the agency established to secure the country’s maritime assets and resources.
These parts of the proposed measures make KCGS an effective focal point to guard the countries against challenges of piracy, illicit drug trade, terrorism, illegal fishing, and transportation of contraband goods.
These and many other plans form part of a five-year new strategic plan 2023/27 launched Thursday at Pride Inn Paradise Hotel, Shanzu in Mombasa.
In a speech delivered by Interior Principal Administrative Secretary Ann Ng’etich, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kithure Kindiki assured KCGS of the government’s commitment to facilitate the agency with the financial resources required to fully implement the strategic plan.
Kindiki said his ministry will source funds from stakeholders and development partners to ensure KCGS discharges its core mandate effectively.
Kindiki noted trafficking in narcotics, humans and weapons, piracy, and terrorism among other maritime crimes remain existent threats.
The drugs are a menace to many in the country and region at large.
