Murang’a University Student Dies By Suicide


Samantha Nyawira, who was pursuing a degree in Tourism was found hanging on a roof in her rented house in Murang’a town.

Police are investigating an incident in which a third-year student of Murang’a University of Technology died by suicide.

Samantha Nyawira, who was pursuing a degree in Tourism was found hanging on a roof in her rented house in Murang’a town.

A memo from the University’s Dean of students Dr Asige Chavumilu said Nyawira was found dead in her house on Tuesday, April 18, at 1.20 am.

Some have criticized the tone of the memo.

The deceased’s colleagues linked the incident to an argument the woman had with her boyfriend, which led to a break up.

On Tuesday, Nyawira’s parents and those of her said boyfriend were called to the school and briefed on the incident.

Police took the body to Murang’a Level 5 Hospital mortuary as burial plans are underway.  Police said they are still investigating the case and are yet to know the motive.
