In Siaya, detectives acted on a tip from a vigilant citizen and captured Hastings Omondi Odipo, also known as Martin or Umar.
Umar was a sought-after member of a criminal gang operating in the county.
He had eluded authorities after the gang attacked a police officer, fatally stabbing him and stealing his rifle.
The incident occurred while the officers were escorting examination papers to Mahero Secondary School in Alego Usonga.
The gang also managed to make off with another rifle that belonged to the second officer present during the attack.
The police, holding Umar at the Lwala Kotieno police station, are in the process of preparing charges against him.
