New information has emerged regarding the weapons and electronic devices seized from a notorious gang during a joint operation by multi-agency teams and Haitian security forces in Torcel, a town just outside Port-au-Prince.
At least 20 gang members were killed in the operation conducted by Haitian police and the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission, led by Kenya.
The operation targeted the “Kraze Baryè” gang, a prominent group in Haiti, aiming to dismantle armed groups across the country.
Among the items recovered were firearms, radios, surveillance equipment, and a drone. Specific weapons included handguns, shotguns, and rifles, as well as communication gear and ammunition.
In addition to taking down key gang members, authorities injured the gang’s second-in-command, Deshomme.
The MSS and Haitian National Police (HNP) are committed to restoring security, vowing to liberate more regions and enable the reopening of schools.
Recently, Kenyan MSS officers visited reopened schools in Delmas, engaging with students during a flag-raising ceremony as part of the Community Police/Edupol program.
While the operation faced resistance, the authorities successfully repelled the gang. However, one armored vehicle experienced mechanical issues.
Haitian authorities issued a statement warning gang leaders, especially Kraze Baryè’s leader, Vitelhomme Innocent, to cease their criminal activities.
Prime Minister Garry Conille of Haiti, during his visit to Kenya, praised the Kenyan forces for their efforts in restoring peace.
He joined President William Ruto in calling on the international community to support the MSS mission.
Recently, the UN extended the MSS mandate, with a strong appeal for global contributions to sustain the mission as Haiti continues to struggle with instability, displacement, and food insecurity.
