An autopsy report has revealed the third-year student at Maseno University who was shot Monday during the anti-government protest died out of a bullet injury.
Western region forensic pathologist Dr. Dixon Mchana Wednesday said the bullet penetrated into William Mayenga’s body through the neck, thus affecting the spinal cord that led to his death.
“I conducted the post-mortem before family, IPOA, Maseno University representatives and I recovered a bullet header from the neck of the late William Mayenga,” Dr. Mchana said.
The deceased’s mother Everlyne Miruka said they were transferring the body to Kisii near their home from the Coptic Mission Hospital morgue in Maseno to begin burial arrangements.
“The only comfort I have had is the company of Maseno University students and some lecturers but nobody else has come to assist us,” she stated.
Mayenga was killed while protesting with a group of others.
Police have issued conflicting statements over the death.
They initially claimed the student and others had tried to raid a supermarket before changing the narrative to claim they tried to attack a police station, both claims denied by the students.
The police have since launched an investigation into the murder of the student.
