Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, made an unannounced visit to the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) Headquarters in Athi River and Kitengela Police Station in Kajiado County.
The visit is part of Kanja’s ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of police service delivery across the country.
During his visit, IG Kanja emphasized the importance of transforming police stations into centers of excellence.
He highlighted his administration’s focus on enhancing training, mental health support, and overall professionalism within the National Police Service (NPS).
Kanja commended the Gender Desk officers at Kitengela Police Station for their exemplary work in handling gender-based violence cases and supporting vulnerable communities.
In his interaction with members of the public at the station, IG Kanja assured the community that the station would undergo a much-needed face-lift, improving both the physical environment and operational capacity.
He urged local residents to collaborate with the police to maintain peace and security in the area, stressing the importance of community-police partnerships in tackling crime and enhancing safety.
The IG was accompanied by a team of senior NPS officers, including his deputies Mr. Eliud Lagat (Kenya Police Service) and Mr. Gilbert Masengeli (Administration Police Service).
Also present were the Commandant of Kiganjo Main Campus, Mr. Nyale Munga, SAIG, NPS Spokesperson Dr. Resila Onyango, and Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Mr. Philip Rono, the Commandant of CIPU.
The OCS of Kitengela Police Station, Chief Inspector Joel Munyalo, was also present to engage with the IG and senior officers.
The visit was seen as a significant step in strengthening the police force’s engagement with local communities and improving the overall functioning of police stations in the region.
