A 33-year-old boda boda rider was fatally stabbed following a dispute over transport fare and fuel money in the Airways area of Athi River East Sub-County, Machakos County.
According to police, the incident was reported at about 1:30 a.m. on June 5, 2026.
Preliminary investigations indicate that at around 11:55 p.m. on June 4, Geoffrey Yegon, the deceased, picked up a passenger and agreed to transport him to the Manyatta area.
Before the journey, the passenger allegedly requested the rider to fuel the motorcycle with Sh200 worth of fuel.
Upon reaching Manyatta, the passenger reportedly failed to provide a specific destination, prompting the rider to drop him within the area and return to the Airways boda boda stage.
Police said the passenger later returned to the stage accompanied by his brother demanding a refund of the Sh200 fuel money on grounds that he had not been dropped at his intended destination.
An argument reportedly ensued, during which the assailant allegedly drew a Maasai sword and stabbed Geoffrey Yegon on the left side of the waist before fleeing the scene.
The injured rider was rushed to Reale Hospital in Utawala but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers arrested the brother, who was accompanying the suspect during the confrontation, and placed him in custody pending further investigations. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the main suspect.
The body was moved to Mama Lucy Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, police in Maara Sub-County, Tharaka-Nithi County, are investigating the death of a 57-year-old man who was found dead in his rented house in Magutuni.
