A somber atmosphere grips Cheptingting area in Bomet County following a tragic incident where a 29-year-old man fatally assaulted his cousin amid a heated dispute.
According to David Kandie, the Konoin sub-county police chief, the suspect, identified as Leonard Rono, forcefully entered his cousin’s residence and struck him on the head with a Rungu, resulting in the immediate demise of 27-year-old Mathew Korir.
The brutal act unfolded before the eyes of Korir’s wife, Beatrice Chemutai, who watched in shock and disbelief.
Reports suggest that Rono and Korir had engaged in a heated argument over undisclosed matters prior to the fatal assault.
Despite pleas from Korir’s wife for mercy and an opportunity to resolve their dispute amicably, Rono proceeded to carry out the deadly attack.
The harrowing ordeal prompted the wife of the deceased to raise an alarm, drawing the attention of bystanders.
A furious mob swiftly descended upon Rono, but intervention from the Nyumba Kumi officer prevented further violence. Rono was promptly escorted to Cheptalal Health Center for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the lifeless body of Mathew Korir has been transferred to Kapkatet mortuary hospital as investigations into the incident continue. Rono, now in police custody, faces legal repercussions for his actions.
