The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has apprehended five officials from the Kwale County Government, including the Head of Treasury and his four brothers.
This action is linked to an alleged corruption scandal involving a whopping Sh.44.9 million of public funds within the county.
Vincent Chirima Mbito, holding the position of Head of Treasury in Kwale County, is accused of masterminding the corrupt activities, reportedly with the collaboration of his siblings.

It is alleged that the Mbito family members utilized a company owned by the family to facilitate the misappropriation of public funds, implicating various sectors of the Kwale County Government in the process.
After being taken into custody, the suspects were escorted from the Mombasa Central Police Station to the Anti-Corruption Court to formally face charges and enter their pleas.
“In the recent crackdown, we arrested five officials from Kwale County Government, including the Head of Treasury and his four brothers,” said an EACC spokesperson.
