The investigation into the murder of Willis Onyango, a Wells Fargo HR manager, has drawn attention to two brothers, George Oduor Okoth and Victor Okoth Ouma.
George was killed during a police operation, while Victor remains in custody.
Authorities have indicated that George, the elder sibling, allegedly led Victor into a life of crime.
Both brothers were recognized for their boxing prowess in their community.
George was fatally shot by police on October 31 while hiding in a guest house near the Kisumu National Polytechnic.
During the encounter, he reportedly opened fire on officers, leading to a violent exchange.
Nyanza Regional Police Commander Patrick Tito confirmed that a Smith & Wesson pistol with three live rounds was found with George.
He had been evading capture after abandoning a damaged vehicle and leaving behind an injured female passenger who later died.
“The police team tracked him down to a guest house, where he resisted arrest and fired at officers, necessitating a lethal response,” Tito explained.
George’s death marks the second suspect killed in this case, as police continue to search for at least two additional individuals involved in the murder of another victim, Ayieko.
Reports indicate that George and his gang kidnapped Ayieko, subjecting him to severe violence and demanding ransom.
Investigators have questioned the owner of the property where Ayieko was held.
Additionally, a female suspect, injured during a police encounter in Gem, succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.
In the Gem Wagai sub-county, police recovered a firearm stolen from Ayieko after receiving tips about suspicious individuals.
A high-speed pursuit ensued when officers attempted to stop a fleeing vehicle, resulting in a crash.
Detectives also searched George’s residence, uncovering stolen electronics and clothing linked to Ayieko.
Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin revealed they are targeting a gang of six to seven individuals, while forensic evidence has linked Victor to the crime.
An autopsy confirmed that Ayieko died from blunt force trauma, and his body was discovered in the Mungowere stream after he was reported missing.
