Police in Bungoma County are investigating a suspected murder investigation following the death of a 27-year-old man who allegedly succumbed to injuries sustained during a dispute over a plastic water drum.
The deceased, Stephen Wanyama, is reported to have been involved in a confrontation with a 30-year-old man at a home in Kimilili on July 10.
According to police, the disagreement arose over a 110-litre plastic water drum. During the altercation, a man allegedly struck Stephen Wanyama from behind.
After the incident, Wanyama reportedly returned home complaining of severe pain in his rib cage and sought treatment at Neema Hospital, where he continued receiving medication.
Police said that on the evening of July 20, Wanyama suddenly collapsed while at home and was rushed to Dreamland Hospital, where he was admitted for observation.
He died at the facility at about 4 a.m. on Tuesday.
Police visited both the scene of the alleged assault and Dreamland Hospital mortuary, where the body was preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
Scenes of Crime personnel documented and processed the scene as detectives investigate whether the alleged assault directly contributed to Wanyama’s death.
Police are continuing with investigations, with the post-mortem examination expected to establish the exact cause of death and guide any further legal action.
And police in Meru County are investigating the death of a 45-year-old man whose body was found near a river in Tigania East Sub-County.
The deceased, identified as Patrick Gitonga, was discovered on Tuesday morning near Bwatho Mwara River in Kinangaru Village after police received a report of a body lying near the water.
Officers from Muthara Police Station responded to the scene and found the man’s lifeless body with a visible head injury.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased may have accidentally fallen while attempting to cross the river using a nearby footbridge.
Crime scene personnel documented the scene before the body was moved to Miathene Sub-County Hospital mortuary for preservation.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death as police continue with investigations into the incident.
