Bungoma, Kenya – As the nation gears up for the upcoming Madaraka Day celebrations in June, significant infrastructure upgrades are underway in Bungoma town.
The Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, announced that funds have been allocated for the enhancement of urban roads and the revitalization of Matulo Airstrip.
In discussions held in Bungoma town with local leaders, Murkomen emphasized that these developments are part of a broader initiative to construct over 600 kilometers of roads within the county.
He assured that these road projects will be completed before the Madaraka Day festivities, ensuring smooth transportation and operations during the event.
“Our priority is to ensure easy access to key locations such as the stadium, state lodge, parking areas, and the airport,” Murkomen affirmed.
He further highlighted that this endeavor presents an opportunity to address additional infrastructural challenges within the town.
Various agencies, including the Kenya National Highway Authority (KENHA), Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA), and Kenya Urban Roads (KURA), are actively involved in expanding connectivity within Bungoma and its neighboring regions.
National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetangula, commended President William Ruto for selecting Bungoma as the venue for the Madaraka Day celebrations.
“We want Bungoma to share in the success of Kenya Kwanza,” Wetangula expressed, underlining the significance of the event for the local community and the nation at large.
