

A 43-year-old Catholic priest died at a hotel in Muranga County in mysterious circumstances.
Father Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku had checked into the hotel in the company of a woman believed to be his girlfriend on July 8, 2023, before he fell unconscious and died
The deceased served at the Archdiocese of Nairobi.
He is said to have been in the company of a lady when he died at Monalisa Hotel in Murang’a County where they had checked in for the night.
According to police, the deceased who served at St Peter’s Parish in Ruai and who is also a farmer in the Mang’u area checked in at the said hotel in the company of the lady who is said to be his girlfriend.
The woman also happens to be his colleague at the workplace in Ruai, police said.
Come Sunday morning at around 8 am, the priest’s girlfriend rushed to the reception and notified the hotel management that his boyfriend was complaining of dizziness and sliding out of consciousness.
She asked for help to take him to the hospital.
And using the priest’s vehicle, a black Toyota Harrier, the girlfriend in the company of two staff from the hotel rushed him to Kenol Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Murang’a county commander Kainga Mathiu said police were notified and responded and found the body in the back seat of the car half covered with the hotel bedsheets.
When police arrived at the scene, he had white foam oozing from the mouth and nose.
The body lay at the back of the car.
Police moved the body to Mater Hospital mortuary in Nairobi pending autopsy and further police action,” said the county police boss.
