ChatGPT can now access the latest information from the internet.
This is a big update from OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT.
Before, ChatGPT could only use information up to September 2021.
Now, some premium users can ask ChatGPT about current events and news.
OpenAI plans to make this feature available to all users soon.
OpenAI also announced that ChatGPT will soon be able to talk with users using voice.
ChatGPT and similar systems use a lot of data to answer questions like a human.
They are changing how people find information online.
But until now, ChatGPT’s “knowledge” was stuck in the past.
It could only use information from September 2021 or earlier.
It couldn’t look up new information online.
So, if you asked the free version of ChatGPT about recent events, it would say it can’t give real-time information.
This limitation turned some users away.
Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, a professor at University College London, said, “I think that’s a good thing in terms of getting quick responses to your pressing, burning questions.”
“If it’s not stating in a reliable way what the sources are, and it’s simply doing a mix and a mish-mash of what exists out there… then the concerns are around accuracy and people just assume the information they get there is reliable when it’s not.”
The US government has also looked into OpenAI because ChatGPT could share false information.
OpenAI said it would work with the government on this issue.
Why did it take so long for ChatGPT to access current information? ChatGPT had a few reasons.
First, it’s expensive to use real-time data.
Every question costs OpenAI money.
Second, using real-time data could lead to mistakes.
ChatGPT might not always give the right answers.
Lastly, there are privacy and ethical concerns.
ChatGPT might show copyrighted information without permission.
This update shows a big challenge for AI.
To be more helpful, it needs to use up-to-date information, but that also makes it riskier.
