A Chief based in Embu county and a college of Nyumba Kumi elders from the Kirigi sub-location were arrested following an arson incident in the area.
They were arrested Friday and booked at Manyatta Police Station ahead of their arraignment on Monday, police said.
Cases of arson and mob lynching have been on the increase in the area.
Lincoln Muthee Kithaka the Chief in charge of Kanduri South Location together with eight elders were arrested on charges of arson and assault, following recommendations by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
This is after an inquiry implicated them in the attack of one Anthony Njue on December 24, 2022.
The suspects had stormed Njue’s home on the material day, broke into his house, assaulted him, and set his house on fire.
Inquiry file no.1/2022 was opened to establish what exactly transpired and on February 24, 2023, a report was received by police based at Manyatta police station recommending the prosecution of the suspects.
Police say the trend of mob lynching is criminal and have warned the public against taking the law into their hands.
