Police are investigating an incident in which a couple died after complaining of stomachaches in a village in Gucha, Kisii County.
Agnes Mokeira, 55, and her husband James Omwenga, 60 succumbed in hospital following the August 4 incident.
Three other members of the family are admitted to the hospital following the tragedy at the Getanga location.
Police said they were informed a family of five members were admitted to various hospitals all complaining of stomach ache, diarrhea, vomiting, and headache before two of them succumbed.
Police suspect the victims might have consumed contaminated food and samples of porridge, maize flour, vomit, and faces were taken for further examination.
A suspect was arrested for questioning, police said.
The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and further probe.
The suspect was expected in court Monday where police would seek more days to detain her as the probe goes on.
And in the Iftin area, Garissa County, one Osman Abdi Jire a firewood collector was shot dead by unknown gunmen in an attack.
The deceased’s body was found lying in his house with several gunshots.
Police said they established that four unknown men armed with rifles went to his house and ordered him out before they shot him dead and left him lying in a pool of blood.
According to police, four spent cartridges believed to be used by both AK47 and G3 rifles were recovered at the scene.
The body was removed to the Garissa mortuary pending autopsy.
Police said they are yet to know the motive of the attack. A hunt on the gunmen is ongoing, police said of the August 5 incident.
