Court reporters Saturday elected new officials to run their Court Reporters Association of Kenya (CRAK).
The election was held on Saturday in Karen, Nairobi where two seats were contested after the other posts had been filled unopposed.
During the Saturday election Susan Muhindi of Radio Africa, Star Newspaper was elected as the chairperson while Caroh Kubwa of Media Max, People Daily was elected as the organisation Treasurer.
In the line up the following were elected unopposed Dzuiya Walter of Royal Media services (Vice-chairperson), Sam Kiplagat of Nation Media Group ( secretary general), Ghetto Radio’s reporter Rodgers Oduor as Vice-Treasurer and Standard newspaper’s Kamau Muthoni is the chief whip.
The election was conducted by Star Editor Jillo Kadida a former court reporter who served as the returning officer.
Present during the election was the association’s patron Justice Isaac Lenaola who is also the Supreme Court Judge.
In their inaugural addresses the new leaders promised to steer the association to the next level and instil professionalism in court reporting.
Journalists have had formation of their different associations in a sector that’s facing challenges and dwindling advertising revenues fortunes especially the print media as a result of digital interruption.
There has been big layoffs in the media with several media companies reportedly not paying their workers which many media companies have attributed it to non payment of their money by the government through Government Advertising Agency (GAA) that’s used to source and place advertisements in different media houses.
Among associations formed by scribes are Photojournalists Association of Kenya (PAK) whose President is Thomas Mukoya of Reuters,Editors guild of Kenya headed by Zubeida Kananu Koome of KTN, Crime Journalists of Kenya (CJAK) whose Chairman is Zadock Angira of People Daily.
Sports Journalists association of Kenya is headed by people daily sports editor James Waindi as the parliamentary reporters association which is led by Duncan Khaemba of NTV.
