Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested an officer the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on Wednesday morning who was demanding a bribe from a victim of M-pesa fraudsters.
According to a statement released by EACC on Wednesday, the officer is said to have demanding a bribe of Ksh 10,000 from a person who lost an amount of Ksh 115,000 to fraudsters.
The EACC was informed about the incident and ambushed Nyasangah, who was allegedly found demanding the bribe to continue the investigation.
Nyasangah told the complainant that the bribe was necessary to facilitate the tracking of fraudsters.
The suspect has been taken into custody at the charagita police station awaiting further processing.
The arrest in nyandarua comes months after EACC arrested another officer in Kasarani, Nairobi County for demanding Ksh30, 000 to release two brothers.
EACC at the time said the officer identified as Paul Kamau Mbugua arrested two brothers on January 26, 2024, for unknown offense but did not put them in the Book of Events (OB).
Mbugua demanded a bribe of Ksh 30,000 to release the two and led the complainants to seek EACC’s intervention.
Following investigation, EACC officers arrest they arrested the police officer after receiving the amount he demanded.
The officer caused an incident during his arrest by shouting while resisting arrest. The entire drama was captured on video which went viral on social media.
The arrest is part of the ethics body’s efforts to stop corruption in the country, especially among those with powers like the police.
